Morocco’s Foreign Affairs and Cooperation minister, Salaheddine Mezouar has been quoted by reporters saying that, “40 countries are supporting Morocco’s return to the African Union (AU).”
Talking at the Committee’s meeting, held on Wednesday at the House of Representatives to adopt the bill on the approval of the Constitutive Act of the AU, Mezouar said, “Morocco carried out a wide international campaign to receive massive support.”
Mezouar went on to note that “Morocco has reached the needed quorum, which is 28 countries as it is stipulated in the Constitutive Act of the AU,” further noting that “40 countries are positively supporting Morocco and they will send their letter support to Morocco in the near future.”
According to the minister, Morocco looks forward to the decision regarding the country’s re-entry to the AU, which will be decided during the 28th Ordinary Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place on January 30 and 31, in Addis Ababa.
Mezouar continued saying, “Morocco anticipates the obstacles that might postpone its return to the AU,” elaborating that the adoption of the AU’s Constitutive Act is a part of Morocco’s desire to hasten its return to the AU.
“The goal is to strip the pressure of Morocco’s rivals who attempt to delay Morocco’s return to the AU,” Mezouar continued. “The violent reactions of Morocco’s rivals are proof of their discomfort and apprehension regarding Moroccan policy, which is not against anyone.”
Mezouar also noted that Morocco’s helping hand is outstretched to everyone, since Morocco’s goal is for all African citizens to be able to hold their head high and rid themselves of the insults and injustice that they experience.
