
Road accidents claimed the lives of 473 people and injured 5,656 others in August, said Friday the National Gendarmerie.
Compared to August 2013, the number of deaths dropped by 6.71%, that of the injured by 17.48%, and the traffic accidents by 15.71%, the source said.
The province of Algiers tops the list with 147 road accidents that killed 13 people and injured 232 others, followed by Medea (130 accidents, 17 killed, 277 injured) and Oran (111 accidents, 16 killed, 185 injured), the source added.
These accidents were mainly caused by speeding, dangerous overtaking and manoeuvres as well as tailgating and pedestrians' recklessness, said the National Gendarmerie in its monthly report.
