Five Palestinians in Israeli jails have been going on hunger strike for 10 days protesting against their administrative detention without trial, a statement said on Saturday.
The prisoners gave the Israeli authorities an ultimatum until Sept. 1 to respond to their demands to end their administrative detention in order to stop their hunger strike, the Corporation for Prisoners' Affairs in Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said in the statement.
The corporation added that "in case the Israeli side denies their demand, the five prisoners will stop drinking liquids that they still drinking until now like water, milk and juice."
More prisoners are expected to join the hunger strike if their demands are not met by the Israeli prisons services, said the statement.
Mohamed Allan, a 30-year-old lawyer who was under administrative detention in Israeli prisons, went on a hunger strike for 60 days, and when his health condition worsened, the Israeli court annulled his detention.
Israel jails around 5,000 Palestinians, including 180 under six-month administrative detention.
Meanwhile, Eassa Qaraqe'a, chairman of the corporation, said in a press statement that the PLO and his corporation are very much concerned over the condition of the prisoners who suffer from various chronic diseases.
"The life of 1,800 Patients in Israeli jails is in risk and they are facing slow death because they are not receiving a proper medical treatment," said Qaraqe'a, adding that "85 of them are in critical condition."
