The ongoing fighting between the Syrian regime forces, the opposition and extremist groups has killed about 5,000 people in the war-torn country during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, a monitor said on Friday.
"About 5,000 people have been killed in several Syrian cities during Ramadan, including 1,220 civilians, 244 children and 178 women, due to shelling by warplanes, torture by security forces or lack of food," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights was quoted by Sky News as saying.
The London-based group added that a number of the victims were killed by Daesh militant group, Al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front and other extremist factions in Syria.
