Some 55,000 Egyptian workers legalized their stay during the deadline granted by the kingdom to all illegal foreign workers, said Egyptian Ambassador here Khaled Tharwet on Sunday.
This represents 68 percent of the total number of violating workers that stood at 81,544, the diplomat told MENA.
He thanked the Jordanian ministries of labor and interior for their cooperation during that period that ran from February 25 till April 23.
He said security forces arrest between 120 to 150 workers every day with no official papers.
More crackdowns will be carried out after the end of the deadline, he said, warning that any violating worker will be immediately sent home if arrested after that period.
