9 defendants sentenced to death, 14 others get 25 years in absentia for killing policeman in Mansoura

Mansoura Criminal Court under Counselor Osama Abdel Zaher sentenced to death 9 defendants for killing a security guard of one of the judges hearing a case against ousted president Mohamed Morsi and targeting policemen and army officers in the governorate.

Also, 14 others defendants in the same case were sentenced in absentia to 25 years of imprisonment.

Sergent Abdallah Metwally was part of a team of policemen guarding the home of judge Hussein Kandil, when he was gunned down in February 2014 in the city of Mansoura north of Cairo.

Earlier, security forces arrested the defendants inside one of the apartments in Mansoura. Large quantities of liquids which are used in manufacturing bombs and a number of weapons and maps for vital establishments in Daqahliya were seized inside the apartment.

The Prosecution charged them of forming a terrorist group which calls for committing terror acts against policemen and army officers and killing sergeant Abdallah Metwally.
