Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit voiced hope that the 27th Arab Summit, scheduled for July 25-26, could give a strong push to joint Arab action in the coming phase in view of the extraordinary challenges facing the Arab region.
In statements on Monday before leaving for Mauritania, Abul Gheit said he will expound his vision as the new Arab League chief vis-a-vis issues of top priority to the Arab region especially the political and security developments as well as means to remove impediments facing Arab economic integration.
He also said his address will involve the need for standing against terrorism as it poses a serious threat to all Arab countries in the current phase. A vision to develop and upgrade the Arab League and its activities and structures will also be unfolded by the new Arab League chief.
The upcoming Arab summit will also address the Palestinian issue which is the main focus of the Arab nation as well as means of activating the Arab peace initiative and intensifying the diplomatic efforts at the regional and international issues to address the thorny issues of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, he said.
The summit will also review an important report on Arab national security and means of combating terrorism and threats by the terrorist organizations in the region. It will also discuss proposals floated by the ministerial Arab council to combat terrorism at the political, security, defense and judicial levels, he added.
