Ahmed Ezz, former organization secretary for the now-disbanded National Democratic Party, applied on Thursday for candidacy in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The application was presented by a lawyer on behalf of Ezz, said Vice President of the General committee supervising the upcoming parliamentary elections in Menoufia Wael Omran.
Omran added that Ezz's application will be normally reviewed by the committee.
Ezz was arrested following the January 25 Revolution and faced charges for profiteering and misuse of public funds.
On March 2013, Ezz was sentenced to 37 years in jail. He appealed the verdict, and the case was later dropped and he was released after paying a bail.
On September 8, the administrative court upheld a previous ruling banning businessman Ahmed Ezz from running in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The court overruled the lawsuit filed by Ezz to challenge the ruling.
The court has taken its decision on the ground that Ezz does not meet the terms set by the High Election Commission (HEC).
It said that he has no bank account indicating the exact sum allocated for electoral campaigns and has not submitted a financial statement.
