AIPU appreciates Kuwait role in promoting Arab parliamentary action

Head of the Executive Committee of Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) Faisal Al-Shay'e said Wednesday the committee members suggested honoring the State of Kuwait, the chair of the current 15th AIPU session, for solving several issues and contributing to the promotion of the Arab parliamentary action.
Al-Shay'e, a Kuwaiti MP and also head of the inner panel of Executive Committee, said in statements to KUNA all members of the committee backed the suggestion in recognition of the efforts of the Kuwaiti National Assembly and its Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim.
"Today's meeting adopted a range of recommendations concerning, inter alia, the administrative, financial and organizational issues of the union, as well as the times and venues of coming meetings of the Executive committees; these recommendations will be tabled to the coming AIPU conference, due in Lebanon next March," he said.
"The conferees agreed that Lebanon's parliament will be the interim seat of the AIPU. Morocco, Jordan and Sudan bid for hosting the permanent seat of the Union.
"They discussed the report of the inner panel on the organizational structure of the AIPU and criterions of parliamentary excellence," he said, noting that the newly-formed panel on parliamentary excellence will be meeting tomorrow on the candidate countries, parliament speakers, MPs and researchers.
Meanwhile, Saif Al Azmy, a Kuwaiti MP, said the Arab parliamentarians exchanged views today on how to push forward the Arab parliamentary action in order to solve the issues of common concern for the Arab peoples.
"Palestine question featured prominently during the discussions as a central issue for all Arab peoples," he said, noting that the conferees condemned the recent Israeli aggressions on the Palestinian residents of the holy Jerusalem and the Muslim sacred sites there.
On his part, Kuwait Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Hamad Al-Du'aij appreciated the exemplary participation of the Kuwaiti MPs in the two-day session of the AIPU which opened here earlier today.
In similar statements to KUNA during a luncheon he hosted at his resident in honor of the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation to the session, Dr. Al-Du'aij welcomed the decision of the AIPU executive committee members to honor Kuwait.
Secretary-General of the National Assembly Allam Al-Kandari said: "We had the honor of visiting the Jordanian House of Representatives (the lower house) and Majlis Al-Aayan (the senate) today under kind invitation from presidents of both houses.
"We have had the chance of learning about the parliamentary experiment of Jordan and the history of the bicameral legislature," he said on the sidelines of the luncheon party attended by President of the Jordanian Senate Abdurrauf Al- Rawabdeh.
On the AIPU Executive Committee meeting, he said it approved the financial and administrative reports of the inner panel and agreed to convene the coming session of the committee in Sudan.
"The conferees agreed that the coming AIPU conference will be Morocco in case Lebanon or Egypt were unable to host it," Al-Kandari revealed.
He lauded the conferees decision to honor Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim in appreciation of his role during his tenure as AIPU chairman.
