Head of Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) Nabeel Rajab lashed out at the Al-Khalifa regime for horrible conditions in the country's prisons, and said that the tiny Persian Gulf country's jails resemble those of the Nazi era during Hitler's rule in Germany.
"The prisons of this country (Bahrain) are similar to the Nazi camps," Rajab said.
He pointed to different kinds of skin diseases, including scabies, which have been spread in Bahraini prisons, and said, "Such conditions have been developed as new torture methods."
Rajab underlined that Bahrain's interior ministry has ignored hundreds of complaints about torture in the country's prisons.
Meantime, Chairman of the European-Bahraini Organization for Human Rights Jawad Hussein called on Bahrain's interior ministry to reprimand its security officials for mistreating prisoners
"Another (Bahraini) prisoner was beaten up in the country's central prison several weeks after the death of an activist under torture there," Hussein said.
He asked on his Twitter account that whether torture, beating and mistreatment in Bahraini prisons is a personal attempt by police forces or an organized policy of the security officials against prisoners.
Bahrain has been witnessing a popular uprising since February 2011.
On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to Bahrain to assist the Manama regime in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.
Many Bahrainis have been tortured or killed and hundreds more injured and arrested during the regime’s ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
Bahrain has been severely criticized by human rights groups for its harsh crackdown on anti-regime protests.
