Algerian authorities deployed more troops in the southern region to protect foreign nationals and oil facilities after a new voice message from leader of the Algerian Islamic militant group Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) Abdelmalek Droukdel, local media reported on Monday.
In the voice message, Droukdel said "we will live in peace when all infidels and American soldiers leave Islamic lands from Rabat to Jakarta."
He said "meetings are being held in Libya to join new armed groups loyal to Al-Qaeda group."
Droukdel reiterates his allegiance with Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.
