Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel voiced his country's support for Egypt's nominee Ahmed Abul Gheit, who runs for the position of secretary-general of the Arab League.
This came during a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Wednesday, spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
The two ministers discussed issues of mutual concern and the situation in Syria and Libya.
In February, current chief of the pan-Arab body Nabil el Araby announced that his term would end in July 2016, stressing that he would not seek a second term.
