UN envoy to Libya Bernardino Leon hailed the release of a number of prisoners in several cities in Libya over the past weeks.
In a report submitted to the UN Council on the situation in Libya, Leon urged all parties to release all detainees before Eidul-Fitr (Lesser Bairam), adding that this move will greatly contribute to attaining the next phase of political dialogue.
The humanitarian situation in Libya is still worrying, especially with the increase of the number of displaced people, he added.
Plunged into chaos since the overthrow of Mummar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, Libya has two parliaments -- and two governments -- vying for power, one in Tripoli and one in the eastern port city of Tobruk, which is recognized by the international community.
