
Members of the "Journey of Hope" expedition were received by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Sheikh Thamer Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at King Khalid International Airport late Saturday.
The Journey of Hope team, visiting Saudi Arabia to conclude the international multi-station tour, succeeded in bringing awareness towards mentally disabled people and their ability in blending in with societies, Sheikh Thamer told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The cruise's officials are set to meet with different members of organizations in charge of disabled peoples' affairs in Saudi Arabia.
The expedition, aimed to deliver a global humanitarian message about the mentally challenged, was planned under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The trip which started in early May, crossed 26,000 kms in seven months, visited 39 ports in 19 countries. It would sail back to Kuwait in December 2014.
The vessel was locally built under supervision of specialized international companies. The journey involved mentally disabled patients including those of Down syndrome, autism and learning difficulties, accompanied by their parents.
These parents who successfully aided their children to cope with such impairement wanted to show the world their ability of blending in and opening up to different cultures.
