Arab foreign ministers, attending Arab League talks here Thursday evening, strongly condemned recent "hostile remarks" made by the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah group Hasan Nasrallah against Bahrain.
In its concluding statement, the Arab League ministerial council expressed its "utter rejection" of the Hezbollah chief's "continuing interventions in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain," most recently his comments made on January 9.
The meeting went on to urge the Lebanese government to "bare its responsibility on the matter and to present a detailed clarification on its position over the remarks and actions of the Hezbollah secretary general." Nasrallah's remarks were described as including "a clear incitement for violence and terrorism, aimed at destabilizing the security and stability of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council as a whole." The remarks were regarded a "blatant and rejected intervention in the internal affairs and a clear attack on the independence and sovereignty of an Arab League member nation." The statement urged the Lebanese government to take necessary legal action to ensure that these kinds of remarks are not repeated.
These requests are being made in line with the Arab League Charter and international principles related to ensuring good neighbourly relations and non-intervention in the internal affairs and respecting the sovereignty and independence of nations, added the ministers.
It also comes amid the Council's commitment to ensuring unity between Arab states and maintaining Arab national security.
