Arab League Secretary General Nabil El Araby once again held the UN Security Council responsible for the deterioration in the Syrian file.
At a joint news conference with Arab Women Organization Director General Ambassadress Mervat El Tellawi, Araby reiterated that the Security Council failed to help achieve a political solution to the Syrian crisis or even issue a ceasefire resolution.
Araby voiced hope that the proposal of UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura to form action groups on Syria would assist in realizing the hoped-for political solution.
The Arab League chief also rejected European claims about the failure of Arab countries to deal with the issue of Syrian refugees. Three millions refugees are now in Lebanon and Jordan, while another million are in Iraq, Egypt, North Africa and Sudan, he said.
For her part, Tellawi reviewed a report by her organization on the humanitarian conditions of refugees in Lebanon, Jordan Iraq and Egypt.
Political and military treatments of regional crises shall go in parallel with humanitarian efforts meeting the needs and requirements of refugees, she said.
