Arab League (AL) Secretary General Nabil el Araby has pressed for unified Arab and international efforts to eliminate terrorism and end conflicts.
Addressing the 21st session of the UN Regional Coordination Mechanism on behalf of the AL chief, Fadel Jawad said escalating terrorism is a threat, not only to Arab security and peace but to the world as a whole.
This also has a negative impact on development gains, the AL assistant secretary general for political affairs said, noting that terrorism is sure an obstacle to completing the march of development in the Arab world.
A comprehensive confrontation is needed to clamp down on terrorism, Jawad told the session, which kicked off at the AL General Secretariat earlier Wednesday.
The comprehensive confrontation should not only be military, Jawad said, stressing that the social, cultural and ideological aspects should also be taken into consideration.
Jawad said today's session is very important to support development in the Arab world, especially after the UN has launched the sustainable development agenda for 2030.
