Arab League Secretary-General Nabil el Araby said the United Nations Security Council resolution 2254 opened for the first time the door to solving the Syrian crisis on the basis of the Geneva 2012 statement and other statements issued by the International Syria Support Group (ISSG).
In a press release on Sunday, Araby also welcomed the UNSC resolution.
He asserted the AL readiness to continue its efforts and to coordinate with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura and ISSG to overcome any obstacles facing the implementation of the resolution.
Araby also asserted the importance of continuing regional and international efforts including the UNSC measures to set an international monitoring mechanism that requires all Syrian parties to cease fire, stop targeting civilians and enable humanitarian aid to reach all stricken and besieged areas as well as releasing all prisoners.
