The Arab League on Monday condemned the escalation of armed acts targeting Libyan oil and other vital facilities, as well as abducting and killing of expats.
Addressing an extraordinary meeting for the League's permanent delegates today, Secretary-General Nabil Al-Araby regretted the acts committed by armed groups in the country warning against continuation of such practices.
He called for a decisive action to maintain Libya's unity and territorial integrity, urging no interference in the country's internal affairs. Al-Araby stressed necessity of commitment by all factions to a comprehensive dialogue and supporting the political process.
Al-Araby reaffirmed the League's support to legitimacy in Libya, namely the elected parliament and the ensued government, expressing in the meantime regret for the stumbling Arab and international efforts seeking a second round of Libyan-Libyan dialogue.
For his part, Libya's delegate to the League, Ambassador Ashour Burashed urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and "without delay or procrastination, arm the Libyan army so that it can fulfill its national mission." He also underlined the need to prepare lists of "those who committed crimes against Libya and attacked its institutions, blocking the way for a peaceful solution to the crisis, to stand trial later." In addition, Burashed called for implementation of the UNSC resolutions on Libya, accusing symbols of the former regime of "carrying out a systematized plan" to undermine the state.
He warned of the delay to end the battle against the armed militias, which makes them more ghoulish and reduces chances of a political solution.
