The Arab League Council will hold a meeting in Cairo Wednesday at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the situations in Yemen and the killing of 21 Egyptians in Libya by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Upon request from Yemen to postpone an extraordinary session at the level of foreign ministers slated for Wednesday, a meeting will be held at the level of permanent delegates to deal with the latest developments in Yemen, Arab League Deputy Secretary General Ahmed bin Heli said in a statement on Monday.
He added that another date will be set for the Arab League Council's meeting at the foreign ministers' level following a US summit requested by President Barack Obama on combating terrorism.
The permanent delegates meeting will also focus on repercussions of the "heinous crime" committed by the militants of the ISIL against 21 Egyptian hostages in Libya, bin Heli said.
"The aim of discussing this topic is to announce solidarity with Egypt, which is taking measures to maintain its security and safety of its citizens," he noted.
The Arab League strongly supports airstrikes being carried out by the Egyptian army on some ISIL targets in Libya earlier today and all measures for the safety of its citizens, and to maintain its security and stability, he pointed out.
He referred to the resolution taken by the Arab League Council last September which underscored the necessity of combating terrorism by all military, security, ideological, religious and media means.
He noted that the Arab League supports any member state, not only Egypt, if it is subject to threats.
The ISIL released a video late on Sunday that appeared to show the beheadings of the Egyptian Christians in Libya using high-tech tools.
