Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Nabeel Al-Arabi has today welcomed the Libyan General National Congress election results, which were announced yesterday.
In a statement today, he congratulated the Libyan people, expressing the hope that the election success would serve as a catalyst to overcome political and security polarization and tensions which are reigning in Libya.
Dr. Al-Arabi voiced deep concerns over the clashes between the armed militias to control Tripoli International Airport, stressing the need to stop attacks on Libyan State properties and facilities. He urged all Libyan political leaders to commit to the parameters featuring in the transitional roadmap and join their efforts to engage in a comprehensive dialogue conducive to national reconciliation.
He also underscored the crucial importance of finishing the drafting of the new constitution so as to build state institutions, disband the militias and rebuild the Libyan army and security agencies.
