Arab League to host meeting over Palestine on January 15

Arab League (AL) Chief Nabil El Araby said on Tuesday that a ministerial meeting will be held here on January 15 to discuss ways of supporting the new Palestinian-proposed UN Security Council draft resolution.
The Palestinian bill calls for a full Israeli withdrawal to the pre-1967 lines and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, within two years.
The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah.
Araby hoped that the new five members at the UN Security Council, namely Spain, Malaysia, New Zealand, Venezuela and Angola, would vote for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He added that talks are underway with the US, Russia, China and other major powers to render a proposal to formally recognize Palestine a success.
Araby also slammed Israel for its violation of the international law and ongoing assaults on the Palestinian territories.
He did not rule out the possibility of sending a high-level Arab delegation to Washington to urge it not to vote against the Palestinian bill.
