The Arab League (AL) called on Tuesday for supporting an initiative floated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to provide $817 million for Palestinian refugees.
In a statement, the pan-Arab body urged donors to offer the required funds as soon as possible in light of challenges threatening Palestinian refugees.
It also stressed support for the UN agency in its humanitarian mission.
The majority of the estimated 450,000 Palestine refugees in Syria are displaced and 95 percent of them rely on UNRWA for assistance, the UN agency said in a statement earlier.
Thousands remain trapped in areas of active conflict, where they face appalling suffering. Tens of thousands have fled to Lebanon and Jordan where, despite the generosity of host countries, they face increasing marginalization and despair.
