The Arab parliamentary speakers have unanimously agreed to adopt proposals tabled by the UAE parliamentary division on Wednesday at the opening of the speakers’ conference in Cairo.
The Arab speakers condemned the continuous Iranian occupation of the UAE's three islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, reiterated support to the UAE's sovereignty over the island and renewed support to all peaceful approaches it had taken to regain its sovereignty on the island in accordance with international law.
The UAE parliamentary division's delegation to the two-day conference was headed by Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC).
The proposals submitted by the UAE to the conference included formulation of a unified stand by the Arab parliaments under the name "The Arab Parliamentary Charter to Counter Terrorism and Extremism."
Other proposals also covered stepping up humanitarian assistance to both, refugees and the host countries in the Arab world, convening a special parliamentary conference on ways to fight terrorism, enhancing the role of the Arab Parliamentary Union and the Arab Parliament, and reviewing and implementing all Arab economic treaties.
