The death toll from a minibus accident in the Havran district of Turkey’s northwestern province of Balıkesir, when a minibus crashed into a wall Saturday morning, rose to 11, while 29 others were injured, BGN news reported.
The accident occurred at 9.00 am local time (6.00 am GMT) on Saturday, when a minibus packed far beyond capacity with unregistered seasonal workers lost control as it was going downhill and crashed into a retaining wall along the Balıkesir-Havran highway at the Amasçaklı neighborhood.
Eleven of the illegal Syrian migrants on board died, while 29 more people were injured.
Havran district governor Yasin Öztürk said that the minibus was carrying almost 40 Syrians although its capacity is 25, and that the refugees inside were en route to Ayvalık town in western Turkey.
