At least two Al-Shabaab militants were killed and two government soldiers injured after the insurgents attacked a local administrator of Bardhere town in Gedo region, southwest Somalia, officials said Saturday.
Al-Shabaab militants attacked the house of Mohamed Hussein, the Head of Projects of Bardhere town in Gedo region on Friday night.
Security guards and the group members exchanged heavy gunfire, killing two militants.
"I survived the attack after the terrorists targeted my house which is highly secured. Two of the militants were killed on the spot while others were wounded. However two of my security staff were injured in the attack," Hussein told reporters.
Independent sources say the death toll could be more than the number mentioned as there was fighting between the two sides.
The militant group also attacked the airport of the town which is a base for African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Somali National Army backed by AMISOM captured Bardhere town from Al-Shabaab in 2015, however the group still stages attacks in the town.
