Azhar slammed on Wednesday the failed terrorist attack that targeted the Karnak Temple in Luxor earlier in the day.
In a statement, Azhar hailed efforts exerted by the Egyptian police to thwart such kinds of terrorist plots.
Such attacks will not undermine the determination of the Egyptian people and government to uproot terrorism, the statement said.
"This brutal terrorism seeks to destroy the state," the statement said, citing the timing of the attack, which coincides with the third COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Summit, now held in Sharm el Sheikh.
Azhar urged the Egyptian people to unite in the face of terrorism.
Two terrorists were killed and a third was injured in a failed terrorist attack against Karnak Temple earlier in the day.
