
Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Dr. Juma bin Ahmed Al-Ka'abi participated in the 18th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) municipal affairs ministers in Kuwait.
The conference was opened today by Kuwait's Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of Communications Essa Ahmad Al-Kandari.
The ministers discussed the recommendations of the 29th meeting of the GCC senior municipal officials.
Dr. Al-Kaabi said that the most important recommendation of today's session is to prepare an action plan for urban strategy, that has been approved and put up for discussion in detail.
He stressed that the importance of the strategy lies in the empowerment of GCC and keeping abreast of the remarkable regional and global urban development.
He expressed hope that the unified GCC Urban Strategy will be approved, adding the "we put the general framework of the strategy and allow each country to implement it according to its own means".
GCC Municipal Work Award was launched for the aim of enhancing competition and creativity among the GCC countries so as to achieve sustainable urban development.
Director-General for Urban Planning Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa affirmed that today's meeting is part of GCC joint work's march, which serve the unified municipal work among the GCC countries and upgrade the municipal services and urban planning.
