
The new-look Shura Council has today convened for its first session of the fourth legislative term. Shura Council President Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh chaired the inaugural session in presence of a number of ministers.
The Shura Council president and members took their oath in compliance with article (78) of Bahrain's Constitution. Addressing the inaugural session, Mr. Al-Saleh extended thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa for patronising the opening of the 1st session of the 4th legislative term.
He paid tribute to HM the King for issuing a royal ordinance appointing him along with Shura Council members to represent the people of Bahrain alongside the Parliament. He vowed to spare no effort so as to ensure further landmark achievements in cooperation with the Government chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
He extended congratulations to HM the King, HRH the Premier and HRH the Crown Prince on the opening of the 1st session of the 4th legislative term and the success of the parliamentary and municipal elections, describing the 2014 polls as another milestone in the reform and democratic project.
He paid tribute to former members, hailing their efforts in the 3rd legislative term which helped push Bahrain's parliamentary fledgling experience forward. Incumbent Shura Council first Deputy President Jamal Mohammed Fakhro has been re-elected unopposed. Meanwhile, Jameela Ali Salman has also been elected as Shura Council 2nd Deputy President.
Minister for Shura Council and Parliament Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhl Al-Buainin has also addressed the inaugural session, congratulating the Shura Council President and members on their appointment. The Shura Council will hold its weekly sessions on Sunday as the Cabinet will convene for its regular meeting on Monday.
