Professor Mahmoud Sharif Bassiouni has hailed Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) experience, describing it as a model of national efforts to alleviate the burden on the United Nations. He was speaking at a high-profile meeting on sovereignty of the law at the national and regional levels, which is held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's 67 session. He underlined centrality of the concept of sovereignty of the law, being a means of legitimacy in international relations, citing other experiences like Peru's and reconciliation in South Africa.
