The Ministry of Interior has announced that the black point offenders rehabilitation programme will be open for six emirates of the country. The announcement is in line with the ministerial decision No 387 for the year 2012 in regard to making the programme applicable across the country. Launched under the theme ‘Make your record clear of black points’, the programme is aims to reduce black points of a motorist’s traffic record before it hits the accumulative limit of 24 points. The ministry has named the driving schools, which will be the ministry’s partner in implementing the project as Emirates Driving School in Abu Dhabi; Qiadah Driving School in Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, RAK academy Driving School in Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah Driving Institute in Sharjah, and Fujairah Driving Institute in Fujairah. Lt. Colonel Sulaiman Al Deree, Director of the Police Follow-Up Department, said an errant motorist can join one of the said schools to benefit from the programme once a year and successful completion of the programme will deduct eight black points of the total points of a traffic offender. He said a driver can join the programme before the black points reach the accumulative limit of 24 points. The following category of drivers may benefit from the programme: A driver who has not yet reached the limit of 24 black points, a driver whose temporary driving licence had been withdrawn and after gathering 24 black points for the first time, known as ‘the first traffic offense’, a driver who has a permanent driving licence and had exceeded the 24 black points thrice and a truck driver who was booked for causing a serious accident, or for running a red light or for overtaking where it is prohibited. Motorists can sign up for the programme by visiting the premises of the Traffic and Patrols Department, or may contact the driving schools. A driver can visit the website: www.adpolice.gov.ae/csd for registration or can call at 600566006. From : Khalij
