
The Shura Council underlined the importance of boosting democratic values among all social categories and promoting awareness of their role in building the state of institutions and law.
This came in a statement marking the International Day of Democracy which is celebrated on September 15 every year. Parliaments and the International Parliamentary Union are celebrating it this year under the theme "Engaging Young People on Democracy".
The Shura Council underscored the principles of the royal reform project aimed at ensuring continuity of the democratic march and the reform and institutional modernisation policies adopted by Bahrain to cater for the needs of the youth and avail of their potentials by establishing youth centres and clubs and supporting related societies and programmes.
The council also urged the youngsters to boost their knowledge about constructive political participation and the key role they can play in the building and renaissance of their nation. It also lauded the national youth societies' momentum and their role in highlighting the civilisational march which is based on pluralism and democracy.
The council praised the role of the Youth Affairs Committee in studying and reviewing appropriateness of legislations pertaining to the youth sector. It described the International Day of Democracy as an occasion to renew allegiance to Bahrain's leadership and people and reiterate pledge to reinforce social peace and national unity.
