Border guards accompish several achievements

The Egyptian border guard managed to accomplish several achievements over the past year, said a statement by the Armed Forces on Wednesday.

As for fighting terrorism, the forces were able to destroy several hideouts of terrorists and secure borders, added the statement. Also, up to 67 tunnels were destroyed and large quantities of smuggled petro-products were seized, according to the statement.

The forces seized up to 1,738 arms and 12,849 bullets along with 380 kg of explosives at a total value of around 30 million pounds, the statement indicated.

As for drug trafficking, up to 118 tons of marijuana was seized along with 17 tons of hashish at a total value of around 1.8 billion pounds. Up to 32 million pills of drugs and 413 tons of heroin and opium were also seized, according to the statement. 

Regarding illegal migration, around 12,000 illegal migrants of different nationalities were arrested, added the statement.
