Engineering panels are examining old buildings adjacent to the Italian Consulate in downtown Cairo.
The panel is yet to determine the number of buildings that were damaged, said head of Boulaq Abul Ela district Ibrahim Abdel Hadi in exclusive statements to MENA.
The panel only said that the blast destroyed a number of windows, he added.
Meanwhile, traffic is detoured at the intersection between Galaa Street and July 26 Street as a result of the blast, said a well-placed source at Cairo governorate.
The 6th of October bridge is operating normally, said the source, adding that the vicinity of the consulate is closed.
