
Cairo Governor Atef Abdel Hamid on Sunday ordered heads of districts to intensify clean-up campaigns in the surrounding of churches ahead of celebrations of the Coptic Christmas and new year.
In statements after attending celebrations held by Roman Orthodox denomination to mark Christmas, Abdel Hamid ordered the removal of all parked cars on the streets close to churches.
No parking will be allowed around churches and streets will be well-lighted for the celebrations, the governor said.
He attended the celebrations on behalf of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and Theodoros II as well as Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
