Giza Attorney General Ahmed Beqly decided on Thursday to keep in custody the captain of the cargo ship that was responsible for the capsize of a Nile boat and the death of 15 passengers.
The driver and three of his aides will remain in custody for four days pending investigations over charges of manslaughter and river transport violations.
The cargo ship rammed into the boat carrying a number of passengers celebrating an engagement ceremony in Warraq district on Wednesday.
A number of children were among the passengers.
A technical committee from the maritime transport authority is now examining both the boat and the cargo ship to know exactly how the accident took place.
The prosecution is also listening to eyewitnesses to know circumstances of the incident.
According to a statement by the Health Ministry, 14 passengers were killed and four others were wounded.
The death toll is not the final as rescue workers are still recovering bodies out of the Nile water.
