A child died and six others suffered suffocation after fire engulfed an apartment in Amman, a statement issued by the Civil Defence Department (CDD) said Tuesday.
The blaze broke out on the second floor of a four-storey building in Marka area, leaving a child dead and six others asphyxiated after they ended up inhaling the resultant gases, added the statement.
Fire-fighters managed to tame the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring apartments while the rescue teams evacuated the victims and provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to a nearby hospital where they were reported to be recovering.
The source added that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
