
A suspected civil servant was arrested at dawn in connection with stealing a large amount of gold bars from the Egyptian Mint Authority, acting head of the authority said Friday.
In statements to MENA, Mohamed el Sobky said the suspect was an employee at the Mint Authority.
He was recognized after appearing on cameras installed at a jewelry shop, where he tried to sell some of the stolen yellow metal on Thursday.
On Thursday, a large amount of gold bars and gold ornaments were stolen from the Egyptian Mint Authority.
The robbery was reported by an employee at the authority who discovered the disappearance of the gold bars from a safe.
