Some stations on the Metro Line 3, extending from Giza to eastern Cairo, were closed after a train collided with a platform in the station of Abbassiya.
A metro train exiting the maintenance workshop to the rail line collided with a buffer, Cairo Metro spokesman Ahmed Abdel Hadi said.
The driver was injured and moved to hospital but no other casualties were reported as the train was passenger-free, the spokesman said.
The suspension is restricted to the stations between Fair Zone and Attaba stations, while the rest of the line is working normally, he said.
The collided train is being lifted for the return of the rail movement, he said.
