Head of the 50-member committee that drafted the constitution, Amr Moussa, on Tuesday announced the establishment of the "Egyptian Institution to Protect the Constitution".In a press conference held at the press syndicate in Cairo, Moussa said "constitutional stability" enhances the state's march towards progress.
Moussa said the constitution, passed in a public referendum in January 2014 with 98% approval, is facing threats amid ongoing calls by some figures in the media to amend it over claims that some articles of the constitution could disrupt the executive branch in implementing its constitutional functions.
The constitution made advancements in articles related to the protection of freedoms and rights, he added in the founding statement of the new organization.
The "Egyptian Institution to Protect the Constitution" aims to raise public awareness of the principles of the constitution, promote their protection, and implement its articles, Moussa said.
The institution hopes to provide alternatives to laws and legislations that do not match new constitutional principles, he added.
Along with Moussa, the institution gathers Ehab El Kharat, Hoda El Sadda, Hanna Grees,
