
Stating its reasons behind the acquittal, the court said Alaa and Gamal Mubarak have exceeded allowable remand custody period of 18 months.
The pair started their remand custody on June 25 of 2013 in connection with presidential palaces case then on May 21 of 2014 the Criminal Court sentenced both of them to four years in jail.
On January 13 of 2015, the Cassation court annulled their conviction and ordered a retrial.
Under the criminal procedure law, the two should be released and can no more be kept in remand custody.
