Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday laid down a ruling sentencing former prime minister Ahmed Nazif to five years in prison and fined him EGP 53.3 million over illicit gains.
Under the order, Nazif is also requested to hand over EGP 48,610 million.
The court said the available decrements proved Nazif is guilty in illicitly making wealth of around EGP 53.3 million during his service time from 1983 to 2011.
Also, the ex-prime minister collected around EGP 1.299 million-worth gifts from the state-run press facilities for himself and his late wife.
Under the court's statement, Nazif squandered around EGP 34 million illegally raised for a false public education foundation.
Meantime, he used his power as the prime minister to rent the headquarters of the foundation at a very little value.
