Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif has helped a Saudi mother and her three daughters to return home after being trapped for four years in Syria, according to a report in a local publication on Thursday.
The woman’s son Saad Al-Shehi, with the support of the crown prince, traveled to Turkey, where he met his mother, who is in her sixties, and his sisters. They had to often walk for four days through dangerous areas to reach the Turkish border, the report said.
Adel Murad, Saudi ambassador in Turkey, said: “After communicating with their family members in Saudi Arabia, there was coordination with the Turkish authorities, which provided its support and processed the applications of the family.”
He said the embassy in Turkey organized flights for them home and they arrived safely in Saudi Arabia, where they underwent security and medical procedures. “All the family members returned safely at dawn on Saturday,” the embassy said in a statement. It urged Saudi citizens to seek help if they were in trouble.
Al-Shehi said the family’s problems started when his mother and sisters traveled to Al-Qamishli to visit relatives and then decided to stay longer when the head of the family died and there was a dispute over inheritance.
He said that he started processing applications to get his family home and often spoke to his mother by phone hearing the sounds of gunfire and bombs. The procedures were delayed and he then approached Crown Prince Mohammad to assist. Al-Shehi traveled to Turkey to organize the return of his family and coordinated with the Saudi Embassy in Turkey and his uncle in Syria.
