Dailies Highlight 40th Land Day Avviversary

Palestinians' commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Land Day in the form of demonstrations to protest the Israeli government’s land grab systematic policy hit the front page headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Quds reported that Palestinians across Israel, the occupied Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza) and the diaspora commemorated Land Day.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the commemoration of Land Day manifested the unity of the Palestinian people, meanwhile al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported on Israeli forces’ suppressing the rallies and leaving tens of injuries and suffocation cases among the demonstrators.

Highlighting the 10th session of Fatah’s Advisory Council, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the council as stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to secure a worldwide recognition of the state of Palestine.

The council was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida as reiterating that Jerusalem shall always remain the “national capital” of the state of Palestine.

The three dailies highlighted US congressmen’s call for an investigation into Israel’s “extrajudicial executions” of Palestinians.

Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam explained that ten congressmen called on the US Secretary of State John Kerry to investigate such executions of Palestinians. While, al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that the congressmen’s call was slammed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said a UN expert described Israeli forces’ killing of Abdul Fattah al-Sharif in the Hebron neighborhood of Tal Rumeida as an “extrajudicial execution.”

Highlighting the latest Israeli settlement construction plans, the three dailies reported that the Israeli West Jerusalem Municipality approved the construction of 18 settler units at the heart of Jerusalem’s neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported that the Israeli military prosecution closed an investigation into the execution of Palestinian teenage Nadim Nuwara, 15, who was shot dead alongside Muhammad Abu al-Thahir, 17, during a protest commemorating 66thanniversary of the Nakba.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said the so-called Coordinator of the Israeli Government Activities in the Territories Yoav Mordechai warned that banning Palestinian products in Jerusalem would result in an escalation of the boycott of Israel.

Highlighting statistical data published by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, al-Quds reported that Israel controls over 85% of the land of Historic Palestine.
