Decolonization of Western Sahara, security council must act quickly

Sahrawi ambassador to Algeria Brahim Ghali called on Saturday, in Madrid, the United Nations Security Council to act “quickly” and with “determination” for the decolonisation of Western Sahara.
“The United Nations is bored with Morocco’s repetitive procrastination and its hindrances to the settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara,” said Ghali on the sidelines of the 39th European Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO), insisting on the necessity to undertake actions so that this situation does not continue .
In this regard, He underlined that “in his next report, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon should draw the attention of the Security Council to reconsider its approach to manage the UnitedNations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) for the decolonisation of Western Sahara.”
The Sahrawi ambassador underlined that this 39th EUCOCO takes place in a “particular situation marked by the intransigence of the Moroccan King (Mohammed VI) towards the international legality, reiterating his call to the United Nations to assume its responsibilities to quickly complete the decolonisation of Western Sahara.”
Ghali also called on the European Union to cancel its fisheries agreements concluded with Morocco, “considered illegal by the European Commission.”
