Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud said Monday that the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) has played a key role in establishing security and stability in the region. A view that was shared by international organizations, he added. This came in a speech the Deputy Prime Minister gave today at the opening session of the fourth meeting of the Implementation Follow-Up Commission on the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur at the Ritz Carlton in Doha. He said there are some challenges that will require time to overcome and warned that failure to implement the Doha document would have negative effects on Darfur, Sudan and the entire region. Al Mahmoud stressed the importance of adherence to the achievements which the document accomplished and the need to build on the settlements contained in it, calling for more efforts to persuade hesitant parties to join the peace process on the basis of the solutions it has delivered.
