Public Prosecutor Nabil Ahmed Sadeq has sentenced a managing director at the Egyptian General Company for Tourism and Hotels (EGOTH) and four others to criminal court on bribery charges.
The first defendant, managing director Mamdouh Abdou Ratab, is accused of assigning the implementation of projects to renew and renovate hotels to construction companies owned by three of the defendants.
An investigation revealed that Ratab requested a total of five million pounds worth of bribes from the three other defendants.
The three owners of the companies admitted to offering the bribes.
A fourth defendant, a broker, also gave a detailed account about the incidents.
The probe included audio and video records, as well as telephone conversations tapped by the Administrative Control Authority after permits from the Supreme State Security Prosecution.
