Egypt affirmed full support for the Palestinian people in their goal to achieve their legitimate and inalienable rights.
Egypt also supports Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in his peaceful political and diplomatic battle to achieve the aspirations and hopes of his people, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said in an address to a ceremony organized by the Arab League on the occasion of "the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People".
Assistant Foreign Minister for neighboring countries affairs Osama el Majdoub delivered Shoukry's speech to the ceremony.
The foreign minister called on the international community to compel Israel to stop the unjustified violence against Palestinians.
Achieving the security needs comes only with an end the occupation, respecting human rights, activating the peace process and establishing a viable Palestinian state, he added.
He called on the Palestinian parties to restore the national unity and end the division through a comprehensive national dialogue aiming at settling all internal differences.
The minister urged the Palestinians to formulate and implement a unified national strategy to confront the Israeli occupation and complete the national project in reaching full freedom and independence.
He expressed Egypt's deep concern over the successive developments in the West Bank and Al Quds.
He said that the Palestinian daily protests are a result of Israel's violence and flagrant violations.
For his part, Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil el Araby said that the Israeli occupation constitutes a major obstacle for achieving peace and tackling violence and extremism in the region.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is a UN-organized observance held on November 29 each year to mark the anniversary of resolution 181. In 2003, it was observed on December 1.
In 2012, The General Assembly voted to grant Palestine non-member observer State status at the United Nations by a vote of 138 in favor to 9 against with 41 abstentions by the 193-member Assembly, Resolution 67/19.
