The Egyptian Armed Forces Spokesman Colonel Ahmed Ali said Wednesday the army killed "two terrorists" in an air offensive in Sinai and destroyed two homes belonging to "dangerous militants." In a press statement, he said a military aircraft destroyed a home owned by "one of the most dangerous" militants in North Sinai, and believed to have been used for "harboring militants and storing weaponry and explosives." The bombing occurred south of Sheikh Zuwayed, causing a "massive explosion" due to the large quantities of explosives and weapons housed in the building, Ali said. Sinai has suffered a security vacuum since the January 2011 uprising which toppled Hosni Mubarak's regime. The situation escalated after the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July and the subsequent crackdown on his supporters across the country.
