Egypt is following up with great concern developments in the Palestinian territories, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
Cairo condemns the Israeli attacks on different parts of the Gaza Strip that left dozens of Palestinians dead and injured, said spokesman Badr Abdel-Aati.
Israel should act to contain the situation, Abdel-Aati said, stressing it should put an end to all military operations and exercise maximum self restraint.
He added that collective punishment of the Palestinian people should also stop because this will lead to a vicious circle of violence that will only result in more killings.
Israel should open direct communication channels with the Palestinian Authority to guarantee justice is served on both sides, Abdel-Aati said.
Egypt is contacting all regional and international parties concerned with the aim to avert more Israeli military attacks on the Palestinians, he noted.
The spokesman held Israel fully responsible for the protection of lives of Palestinian civilians in line with the Geneva Accords and international law.
